Everyone has arrived!  The day began with streams of shipmates arriving. The lobby remained a hub of activity until later in the day when the hospitality suite opened.

The ship's stores were very busy places, also.

The evening activities began with the Early Bird Gathering at 1900 hours. Keynote speaker Capt. James C. Taylor, Chief of Public Affairs, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, NE delivered a rousing address that brought standing ovations.

President Tom Kidd announced the completion of the Ralph Freese Memorial Project 2000, 25 years of DESANews on CD-ROM. Trianne Freese, widow of Ralph Freese, was present at the podium and expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the completion of the project that was begun by her husband. President Kidd presented Mrs. Freese with the first copy of the CD. A standing ovation expressed the feelings of DESA members.
The CD-ROM was made available for sale immediately following the close of the gathering and the first copy was purchased by Al St. Jean, US Otterstetter DE-244. Mr. St. Jean has attended every DESA convention!
The first 500 CDs will be available here at the convention and it is expected to be sold out very quickly. Marlene Manning of FYI Imagining demonstrated the operation of the CD-ROM.

A Wine and Cheese Reception culminated the evenings events.

A grand time was had by all!
