Named for three brothers: Fireman First Class Malcolm J., Fireman Second Class Randolph H. and Fireman First Class Leroy K. Barber; all enlisted in 1940 and KIA 7 December 1941 aboard OKLAHOMA (BB-37). Their mother christened YAKUTAT (AVP-32) 2 July 1942.
