At the conference table aboard USS Levy DE 162, August 19, 1945, three days before the Japanese surrender of Mille Atoll. The Japanese had to inquire of Tokyo for advice on the surrender terms. This meeting ended with the Japanese stating they would make a white cross of sheets when they were ready to surrender and return to Levy to sign formal papers.
