USS Levy DE 162 Officers Go Ashore at Mille for U.S. Flag Raising

On 28 August 1945, Lt. Cmdr. William G. Clarenback (left) and Capt. H. B. Grow, Majuro Atoll Commander, lead a party from USS Levy DE 162 ashore at Mille for flag raising and to begin the U.S. occupation. The party arrived in the ship's whale boat, at right. The six-man honor guard included Levy shipmates Chuck Hays and Woody Story.
