On 28 August 1945, Lt. Cmdr. William G. Clarenback (left)
and Capt. H. B. Grow, Majuro Atoll Commander, lead a party from
USS Levy DE 162 ashore at Mille for flag raising and to begin the U.S. occupation. The
party arrived in the ship's whale boat, at right. The six-man honor guard included
Levy shipmates Chuck
Hays and Woody Story.
