"On the river Douro in Oporto, Northern Portugal, August 1962. This was a memorable time. We were there 5 days.
This photo was taken on "visitors day". That was real fun! People came from the mountains and for the vast majority of them was the first time they stepped on board a war
ship. The people ashore were really friendly towards us sailors, they even invited us into their homes for a meal. I was 19 years old at the time but I shall never forget the
occasion. A couple of the boys ended up marrying local girls. Pleasant memories for an old sailor like me!....Good old times."
