How to Become a Board Candidate

Each year at the National Convention, a specific number of members are elected to the Board of Directors by a vote of those attending the annual business meeting. Any regular DESA member can run for the Board by submitting a letter to the National DESA headquarters along with a copy of his honorable discharge and evidence that the service included duty aboard a destroyer-escort or other qualifying ship (DER, APD, etc.).

Each candidate also supplies a short article for publication in DESANews, outlining his qualifications and goals. The material should be sent to DESA, PO Box 488, Henderson Harbor, NY  13651.

The board elects the President and Vice President annually, and the President appoints board members to various positions or committees. Candidates should note that once elected to the board they are expected to fill any such position. Also, the by-laws state that if DESA does not have the funds to pay a board member’s designated expenses, then the member will bear the expense.
