USS McCLELLAND DE 750
"Our Kamakazi"
"On 1 June 1945 while performing Radar & Sonar picket duty off the coast of Okinawa, a suicide (Kamakazi) dived on us from the stern and was splashed about 25 yards off our starboard bow . The skipper ordered an emergency left rudder turn to port or it would have been a direct hit on our ship. We painted a picture of our 'trophy' on the port side of the flying bridge . I hope it remained there during the "Mighty Mac's" commission, I really don't know."
