"This photo was taken shortly after the handing over on loan
to the Portuguese Navy. She is flying the NATO pennant no. F333.
I was aboard ship when this photo was taken. She was my first ship.
I joined her on the 5th November 1960, 1 day before my 18th birthday
in Lisbon harbour. I was the youngest member of the crew, just out of
high school and as "green as grass".
Shortly after my joining her, we sailed to the Cape Verde Islands
(off the West Coast of Africa) upon our return home, after a couple of weeks
we sailed to France and England. What an experience for a young man !"
