USS DANIEL A. JOY DE 585
Commissioning Ceremony Invitation
"My
Mother's first cousin Virginia Firneisen Joy Hendricks was the wife
of Daniel A. Joy. She christened the Joy when it was commissioned
as you may know. My mother attended the ceremony. I have in my
possession inherited photos of the christening as well as an
invitation and a couple of the programs you have on your web sight.
Virginia and I have been exchanging Christmas Cards for years.
Unfortunately I did not receive one this year. I do not know if she
has passed or is in a nursing home. Interestingly, Virginia's
father
was on the ill fated "General Slocum" the ferry boat which burned
in the East River near "Brother's Island" in New York City.
Virginia's father "Henry Firneisen" was my great-uncle. The family
all survived"
