USS STANTON DE 247

DE 248 USS Swasey in the foreground and DE 247 in the background

"I was a SoM3/c on DE 247 from February 1945 to September 1945. We operated with the USS Croatan, a CVE, in the North Atlantic until the war in Europe ended. We were at Pearl Harbor preparing for the invasion of Japan when the Japanese surrendered. By then the Stanton had been converted from being, primarily, an anti-submarine warfare ship to
an anti-aircraft ship.

I have no idea when the photo was taken. There is a good chance it was taken while I was aboard, because the Swasey was one of the six DE's operating with The Croatan."
