USS DAVIDSON DE/FF 1045

A SAD ENDING TO DAVIDSON

On February 10, 2005, the USS DAVIDSON DE/FF 1045 Reunion Association received a message from Marcelo Sousa in Brazil that the CT PARAIBA D28, ex-USS DAVIDSON, sank as it and the CT PARANA, ex-USS SAMPLE, were being towed to Alang, India, to be scrapped. The coordinates for DAVIDSON are:

Latitude 23 degrees 05' 745 south
Longtude 042 degrees 59' 521 west
In 50-60 meters of water 12 nautical miles outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She lies at a 60 degree port list.

In less than a month, a Brazilian dive group called Wreck Finders was diving on the ship. The association has since then supplied them with drawings of the interior and exterior of the ship. They are now opening doors and hatches to gain access. The Association has established a link with Wreck Finders and photos of the ship can be seen at www.ussdavidson.com.l We also have a DVD of the dive on the ship.

Although it was a sad end to our ship, we remain happy that she didn't end up in the scrap pile.
Now those who want to see her can do so forever.
